This morning somehow I am reminded of the song by Donovan. Who knows what he meant when he wrote it, since writers everywhere who let go of their minds are inspired by something higher. Perhaps it was a love song. Maybe a love song to God. Yes, we may as well try to catch the wind.
I like to think if it as a love song to Truth or God. The human spirit first recognizing something greater exists, and that it is unable to capture what it longs for. The spirit can eventually evolve to realize that what it cannot do, something Higher can do. Angels can do for us what we cannot, for example, but only when we let go of control--which is the hardest thing for the human ego to do. We must give up the struggle to control this world. This is a golden key. We must sacrifice who we think we are to become who we are.
And here are the lovely lyrics by Donovan. I can't publish his haunting melody here, but you can listen somewhere.
"Catch The Wind"
In the chilly hours and minutes
Of uncertainty, I want to be
In the warm hold of your loving mind
To feel you all around me
And to take your hand along the sand
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
When sundown pales the sky
I want to hide a while behind your smile
And everywhere I'd look your eyes I'd find
For me to love you now
Would be the sweetest thing 'twould make me sing
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
Di di di di, di di di di
Di di di di, di di di
Thanks for this. I have the song and have been listening to it. So many nice reminders in our open classroom.
ReplyDeleteHey Kevin, I learned to play this song on my guitar. Unfortunately, I stopped practicing and now I have forgotten! I hope to make the time to practice again...but I have so many things to do...
