LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS

Dear Students,
The following is an email I sent to two clients (not students) who are going through a divorce, trying to decide the best living arrangements for themselves and their children. This email deals with money issues. Perhaps you will find it helpful:
Dear ___________,
While making your choices of where and how to live, please keep in mind that nothing is forever. The ego always wants to keep us mired in forever thinking, because the ego is itself impermanent. The ego can find ‘forever’ only in false thinking.

So when making your plans, remember everything is changing. You do not have to plan for forever. Just make the best plans possible to serve the needs of your children and feel comfortable yourselves. Maybe think of the next year or three years in terms of living arrangements. Think of what is needed and what you can afford, which may or may not fit the desires of the ego.

It is a spiritual principal to live within your means. You two have not been able to find clarity and communication about money, and you both have your own stories about this.

Numbers do not lie; people do. I suggested years ago, and more than once, some steps you could take for healing around your money issues. That didn’t happen, but more financial upheaval. Whatever happened, the two of you have created this together, so please no blame, no shame, no complain. Just deal with it as best you can.

Unless you can get clear and communicate upfront about money now, you are bound to repeat financial mistakes. Change happens when we take action to change.

There is practical mind and impractical mind. The mind is meant for practical tasks. So get clear about your finances. Communicate. Listen to each other.

Right now I sense confusion, lack of clarity, and fear around finances. Confusion leads to more confusion. This must be dealt with.

You must know what your financial means are, if you are to live within them. This does not mean living from fear. The more you know your financial numbers, the less reason there is to fear. Fear is not friendly.

God will provide when we do the footwork. God does not do the footwork for us.

While I understand you are both dealing with and healing emotions, money is a spiritual principal. Money represents our breath—the life force we put forth to earn that money—and both of you together have given your breath. That breath, in the form of money, is to be honored, if we are to be honored in return. This is the law of karma.

You can do this. It's a choice.

Love flows from the angels and I go where that love goes.
