DARKNESS AND LIGHT

light and dark
There are simple things we can incorporate into our life each day to help bring us into the Light. First we must understand that there is darkness and there is light and that the choices we make each day take us to one or the other. Darkness is synonymous with unconsciousness and light equates with Consciousness. One simple way to live more in the light is to watch our language. While swearing and profanity may be "normal" in the world,  it is not pure and natural to our hearts. The innocent heart is always hurt by the darkness that hides behind dark language. Imagine standing before the pure and perfect form of an angel of Light. Would you want to scowl and use dark language in front of a being of beautiful light? No, I don't think so. Please keep in mind that you are also a being of light. Yes, you are! Keep in mind that you are constantly in the presence of light. When you keep this in mind, you will naturally want to keep your language, your home, your life clean and bright, in honor of the Light.

  1. Thank you for this post. It really makes me think--in a new way. When I think about it, "bad" language does come a dark place inside me. After reading your post, Indira, I practiced saying the swear words I use regularly, and you know what? I noticed that it distorted my face, my thinking, and my feeling. It made me feel dark.

And I imagined I was standing before an angel, saying those words. In this experiment, I experienced that I was completely in the dark, while the angel was completely in the light.

I am right now in our open classroom making a commitment to stop swearing. I already feel lighter.

    Love,
    Kevin

  4. As an embodied human being, I find that balance is the important thing. Both darkness and light are important, and keeping my relationship with them them in balance promotes my ability to thrive.

I need to sleep, and it is healthiest to sleep in complete darkness. I can only see stars at night. I love the darkness for that. Many plants would die if they were in direct sunlight at all times.

So, for me, the Universe is a very big place, and has a place for everything, in balance. On a good day, I can train my attention on what I want more of and withdraw it from what I want less of, and in that way, come to a place of healthy balance in which I can thrive in all my diversity. And hopefully, as I come into balance and thrive, this will create more space and encouragement for others.

    May it be so.

  5. Yes, without the night, we could not see the stars. Dark and light are essential to the earth and all growing things. This is a NATURAL darkness, which is another thing altogether from the UNNATURAL darkness of anger, fear, depression, desolation, war, violence, despair, lack, loss, limitation, and the FALSE SELF that masquerades as the REAL SELF.

The abundant Universe wants us to be filled with abundance. The earth provides everything we need, though human beings seem intent upon destroying the many gifts of the earth, which is another form of darkness.

The world is a world of opposites: a dance of shadow and light, form and formlessness, mind and heart, fear and love. Duality is the nature of the world.

The angels teach the clear and simple way. On the angel path, we find the courage to let our light shine so bright that we can see into the darkest corners where are secret fears hide. We bring these fears out into the bright light of conscious awareness and their false power over us dissolves.

While we live in a world of duality, we learn to rise above that world. In the realm of our True Self, the darkness of unconsciousness, ignorance, delusion and seclusion from Truth cannot exist.

We cannot become free from darkness without acknowledging that darkness. On the clear and simple way, we learn to shine our light so brightly that the darkness has nowhere to hide.

  6. Hi Debra,
you said, "And hopefully, as I come into balance and thrive, this will create more space and encouragement for others."

As the angels always remind us, "the only thing we have to share with anyone is our own state of being."

So you cannot help but add balance to the world as you, yourself, come into balance.

So continue to let yourself grow and glow and blossom like the beautiful flower you are, strong enough to grow even through a crack in the sidewalk, soft enough to bend with the wind, while the seemingly strong tree breaks because it cannot bend.

Our school is filled with beautiful fragrant flowers.

  7. Hi, Indira.

Thanks for these clarifications between the natural and unnatural types of darkness.

I'm beginning to investigate this whole notion of darkness and suffering more deeply.

Suffering seems to be part of life. Loss seems to be part of life. Fear seems to be part of life. Our relationship with these things seems to determine the extent to which we suffer. Acceptance seems to be part of coming into right relationship with the challenging aspects of life. Acceptance without identification.

Every character trait seems to be God-given and exist on a continuum of strong to weak, ranging from too little to a balanced state to too much, and each may be helpful depending on the situation and when expressed in balanced. There are times when anger, sadness, fear, happiness, frugality, generosity, etc. are appropriate and helpful and times when they are inappropriate and unhelpful. Violence may be appropriate in defense of self or those unable to defend themselves. Conscious use of violence, that is. Wanton violence or destruction are not skillful, to use Buddhist language.

No need to cut anything out, to exclude, to stigmatize. Expanding into dynamic balance seems to be a helpful direction.

This is a written expression of what I am contemplating...a work in progress...
