READING YOUR LESSONS

Dear Students,
Here are some hints for getting the most out of your lessons. It is always a good idea to read your lesson completely, at least once. But I know you have busy lives (as well as busy minds). Sometimes it is the busy mind that interfere with the ability to focus on spiritual work, even when you think it is something else. The false self will do everything to keep you from Truth, because the ego realizes at an unconscious level that Truth means the end of the false nature.

Helpful Hints:

  • Print a copy of your lesson right away and carry it with you. Commit to reading one or two paragraphs a day, whenever you have a free moment. Do this until you have read your whole lesson, even if it takes several days or a week.
  •  After you read a paragraph or two, think about what you read as you go throughout your day. When possible, apply what you have learned to your daily life or to a particular situation you are in. Bring your spiritual life into your everyday reality.
  • When you have a problem or find yourself in a negative state, open your lesson and randomly choose a few sentences to read. This is better than letting a problem or negative emotions take you over. Try this also when you have questions and are seeking guidance.
  • If you have a computer that speaks (all MacIntosh computers have voices, some quite nice; that's what I have)....listen to your lesson. I listen to every lesson I write. Sometimes I listen while I am cleaning a room or doing yoga.
  • Record the lesson in your own voice and listen to it. Or read it out loud to yourself. You will have a much different experience saying the words, reading to yourself. All children love to be read to, even the children inside us.
  • Before you go to sleep at night, read a few sentences. The last thing you dwell upon at night becomes internalized.
  • When you roll out of bed in the morning, roll into your lesson. Read at least a few sentences to get your day going. If you have time, be still and meditate upon the words you have read.
  • If you have friends or relatives around you who are also taking the lesson, consider starting a small study group where you read and talk about the lessons. This will greatly increase your capacity to understand and benefit from The School.
  • Remember that your lessons can work effectively for you only if you work for them. Even when you do not read your lessons, you are still connected to the angels and the energy of the school. This connection always has a positive impact upon you and your life. But you can increase this impact by your willingness to show up for yourself.

  1. Thanks for the great ideas, Indira. I read each lesson as soon as I receive it and print it out and carry it with me. I get how reading the lessons helps to replace my limited and negative thinking with Truth. Something remarkable IS happening as a result of reading my lessons...I find myself actually thinking in new ways...at least now and then. Sometimes it is like I can here the angels words just when I most need them.

  2. Here is something I need help with. I print out all kinds of things I want to read and put them in a folder. The folder gets too fat and I feel overwhelmed. Then, I take out the things I REALLY want to read SOON and put them in their own individual alphabetically filed folders. Now I have a big box of these, and have still not read very many of the things I've printed out.

Now, I really do want to read all the angel.lessons, and I have read many of them. Trouble is, I can't keep them in my memory very long, so I end up forgetting to practice the teachings. Oh, boy.

I accumulate so much stuff to carry around and I have trouble keeping track of it all. What to do?

  3. Hi Debra, sounds to me like you create a bundle of papers to worry about (haha). I prioritize. For me the School is a priority because it helps me change from the inside out.

I also forget what I read, but I know it is because my mind is so used to its old habits. The way to change is to give my mind new & positive habits of Truth.

I read each lesson right away, even if I only have time to skim it. (I also keep my laptop with me most times, for my work, and open it to my lessons when I have free time).

I print my lesson right away. I print 3 copies. One I keep in a special leather binder with all my lessons.

    One I carry with me.

The 3rd...I cut up...I cut out paragraphs, including the homework, put them in a box, and grab one each morning, which I carry with me. I pull it out whenever I get a chance and study & contemplate it and see how it applies to my current moment.

This works great for me. All I can say is, keeping on keeping on. It works. At least it works for me, but then I work hard. I have to. My life is too painful otherwise. The pain led me here. The pain keeps me coming back.

Good luck Debra. And thanks for sharing and being here to share with.
