I hope it is a good day for you. The day can always be good when we use it for good. How can we use the day for good? By using every moment to wake up—which means living with conscious awareness. Yes, this takes some effort. Many people believe that they shouldn’t have to work for their spiritual life, even though this defies all logic. We have to work for everything else—just to survive on this planet requires effort. So why should our spiritual life be any different?
The trick is not to think of your spiritual life as separate or different from the rest of your life. Cleaning your house, taking care of your children, or going to your job is part of your spiritual life because spirituality is practical. Living a spiritual life is as simple as being practical in your everyday affairs. When making decisions in life, which all of us are required to do, you can go to your practical mind. You can ask yourself: What is the clear and and simple choice? Is it practical? What is the most likely outcome of this decision? Do I have the expertise to make this decision or should I ask for help? Am I following emotions? Are these emotions giving me right direction? Do I need more information to make a good decision? How do I feel right now, when thinking about this decision? Can I accept the outcome, no matter what? Can I let go, no matter what happens?
Hanging onto hopes and expectations brings pain. When things don’t work out the way we want and we can’t let go, we decide to suffer. Did you ever think of suffering as a decision?
Acceptance of the outcome brings peace. So try to work towards accepting what you cannot change. In this way, you will find the energy and enthusiasm to change the things you can.
