Dancing to freedom!

The youtube link below a good one, which I just found when I was researching Gabrielle Roth (Feb. 4, 1941-Oct. 22, 2012) on the internet, because of a quote I posted on Nov. 29, 2014, which someone just sent me the rest of. Here is the past classroom post.  http://youropenclassroom.blogspot.com/2014/11/spiritual-shamanism.html

I've been thinking we often sit too much in my seminars and have been contemplating ways we can move more. Shamanic Dancing sounds like a wonderful way! I do more and more use Qigong and Yoga, but the idea of dancing is so free and easy and anyone can do it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cYYzcTzm6Y

Someone just sent me the rest of the quote I posted previously, which I like very much, so here is the whole quote now: (Her email to me is what prompted me to begin researching Gabrielle Roth--who has an interesting story)

"In many shamanic societies, if you came to a shaman or medicine person complaining of being disheartened, dispirited, or depressed, they would ask one of four questions:

1. When did you stop dancing?
2. When did you stop singing?
3. When did you stop being enchanted by stories?
4. When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence?

Where we have stopped dancing, singing, being enchanted by stories, or finding comfort in silence is where we have experienced the loss of soul. Dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence are the four universal healing salves." -The Four-Fold Way: Walking the Paths of the Warrior, Healer, Teacher and Visionary

  1. Hello,
just spontaneously followed the video and had a nice full body dance! Great start into the day! Actually, it feels as it could be nice at any time of the day. Since I have been wanting to come into dancing for a while now, I take this als a reminder and on-the-spot possibility to just do it. So happy you posted it!
I feel that dance helps connecting to body and Now. The connection may be there anyway anytime, but to me here's one way to drop what keeps me from being aware of it.
I am curious what will show up when I follow this little session every day. I'll try.
    Have beautiful days, Petra

  2. Thanks for giving a picture of the start of your day, Petra. I will go walk 3 dogs now--I am dog-sitting for my friend--before the sun gets too hot. I will think of it as a dance as the dogs each follow the scent of the world around them.

  4. Haha... I like that, Kevin!
    So... everyone dance!

Judy, let's call it the sniffy-snuffy-dance?! Do you know India's Holi-Festival? Imagine that dog dance if all the scents were colored... Yeay:-)
