THE HUMAN EGO

Angels rely upon God. Angels give all credit to God. Angels exist in the awareness that they are not separate from God.

The human ego experiences itself in separation from God. Where the ego takes credit, it must also take blame. Taking credit for the good things in life feels great, while taking blame for the bad things—well, you know how that feels—thus, the poor ego cycles through successions of highs and lows. This is exhausting, depleting, and emotionally painful.

When the ego just gets tired of itself, tired of thinking it ever knew anything, tired of striving and resisting, tired of feeling elated when something good happens and dejected when something bad happens, tired of taking either blame or credit, when the ego gets tired of trying to become more spiritual, tired of trying to change itself, when the ego finally recognizes its own powerlessness—it is ripe for surrender to a Higher Power.
