dream
it started with this horrible nightmare I had about an evacuation of the town we were living in. I'm not sure exactly why we were told to get on the lined up buses with one bag and leave everything else behind. The chaos was unforgettable Everyone was screaming and pushing and tried to leave with the first bus, even they were many buses standing by.I told my husband that I noticed other people who clearly didn't do what they were told and just walked back to their homes. He wanted to take the next bus and I actually did as well. It was noisy and I couldn't even think straight. But something stronger kept me back...we stayed and I woke up sweating and very upset.
The nightmare followed me the whole day. But a few hours into the day I realized we stayed there in peace and I did exactly what my heart told me to do. My ego went on such a frantic outburst blaming me to be responsible for any harm to me or my husband. But my heart and instinct told me different. I realized there was no proof for safety at the end of the bus ride. The "egos" nightmare turned during the day into a positive dream.
I know: thanks to our lessons I was able to analyze my nightmare and was able to understand what happened.
has our ego such a big influence even in dreams???

That is quite a dream, Ursula. Dreams can have many interpretations, and I always think we are best able to understand our own dreams.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great insight--"I realized there was no proof for safety at the end of the bus ride." The ego always wants to torment with us with what "should have, could have been" if we had done things another way. And you are so right--there is no proof of safety at the end of the bus ride!
The only real safety is following our heart, staying in the peace of our heart. That is what most people have such a hard time doing. It is much easier to follow the fear and chaos that the ego presents to us on a daily basis, promising that it knows the way, when all it knows is more fear and chaos. We only need look at the state of the world to see the fear and chaos of the ego at work.
As spiritual students we must wake up from the fear and chaos of the ego. We must not believe in it. We do not have to get on a bus and ride away from something that is not real. We do not have to join the crowds that believe in fear and darkness--not the crowds outside, or the crowds inside our own mind.
By using your intelligence and inner wisdom, you were able to turn confusion into understanding.
And yes, the ego does have a large influence, even in dreams. The ego will always strike us where we are weakest. This is why it is a good idea to release negativity before sleeping and surround yourself with light. Lesson 50 talks about reviewing your day before sleeping and taking a few moments to let go of resentments and hostility, so you can sink restfully into sleep. Even so, sleep may still bring nightmares, but now you know you have a way to deal with them in your waking hours.
ReplyDeleteAlso some things that cannot be resolved in our waking life can be healed in dreams. I have often had this experience myself. I call them, "healing dreams."
My experience is that the healing that happens in dreams is very real. If we are sincere about wanting to understand, heal, or resolve a situation or relationship that cannot be resolved another way, this may happen in dreams. I am always very grateful for these healing dreams.
