An Open Heart

Dearest Students, I have copied here a letter I just wrote to a student, whom I have advised to write about what it means to her to have an "open heart" . . .  since she feels her heart closes down. She says she has been following my suggestion, so here is my most recent response to her. It may also be helpful to you. I have, of course, left off identifying information:  I am glad you are journaling. I find writing to be incredibly self-revealing and self-healing. As you know, I write all the time...messages every day, a new lesson each month, poetry, to students. The more you write, the better you write, and the more messages can come through, from the angels, from your own heart and intuition. So keep writing.

We can be so unconscious as human beings. Writing is a way to become clear about what we really mean when we say, for example, "my heart is closed." We may hear that thought in our mind, like a voice, (the mind has many voices) and just believe it, without really investigating and finding out what it means.

Writing about this will help you discover what it means to you to have an open heart. What it means to your mind. The mind can give us so much critical advice, without giving us helpful solutions.

As I was writing, this song of Hirth's came to my mind, which seems to me to be about a heart opening, even in the midst of loneliness and loss, being in touch with everything, most of all one's self, accepting what is....

Sing This Song  ©2010 hirthmartinezmusic

Nothing matters on this perfect day
You were here and then you went away
Nothing's right but maybe nothing's wrong
Maybe I'll just sing this song

The sun looks lonely in the sky above
I feel something and it may be love
I'm not sure because it's been so long
Maybe I'll just sing this song

My heart is open
I'm in touch with everything
Some things can be spoken
Other things I have to sing

I sing this moment
And the moments I once knew
I could sing forever
But right now I sing for you

It's some enchanted and amazing day
Everything just seems to go my way
Nothing's right and maybe nothing's wrong
Maybe I'll just sing this song.

The path to Truth can seem arduous and long at times. Other times light and free. On one hand, it is a path each of us must travel alone. But we do not want to get/feel too lonely . . . which can happen. And so the angels created the School, for anyone who wants to have a conscious awareness that they are not alone . . . that angels are with us. That we are with each other. The compassion of the angels is truly wondrous. When I feel it streaming through my heart and soul, nothing exists but now, this present moment, in all its perfect beauty.

I think having an open heart means feeling what we feel, withstanding the sometimes critical assault of our own mind, letting everything flow into the heart, without putting up barriers . . . and so even the most negative experience is transformed by love into love. This is a feeling so freeing. To put up no barriers against anything at all.

When we put up barriers, we end up living behind walls, afraid of so much. We give the darkness power over us . . . we make it real. Otherwise, why erect a barrier, if we did not believe there was something that could harm us?

And so dear Student, continue with your writing. In this way, you can define and refine your definition of what it is to have an open heart. You can make the unconscious conscious. And the whole point of the School, actually, is to bring you into Awareness. Because what we are unaware of has the power to exert control over us. When we become aware of something, we begin to move into true power . . . which is surrender to the higher will of God . . . which is always kind, loving, and benevolent . . . our higher power wants only good for us. We do not suffer because God is not good, but because we turn to our limited minds for advice, instead of opening our heart and soul to the limitless light of God, whom angels love and serve.

All Love,
your grateful teacher

  4. Hello Dear Ruth, take care and rest easy. Let these words be like a gentle caress for your back, soft and healing, full of love and compassion. Yes, words, songs, poetry...can be very healing when we are open to receive. By the way, would you post a link to your book here, if you feel like it. Thanks.

  5. That song says it all. And your words, Indira, give me inspiration to continue with my own journaling. I bought a special book and I carry it with me everywhere, along with my current lesson. I like to feel my pen gliding across the pages.
